Welcome to The Red Lion

A beautiful countryside pub in the heart of
Steeple Aston

Harry, Hannah and the team welcome you to our very cosy pub in Steeple Aston. The Red Lion boasts a rich history dating back to 1765, initially known as “The Chequers” before acquiring its current moniker in 1830. Over the centuries, it has served as a hub for the local community, a witness to countless stories and laughter-filled gatherings. Our aim is to be a quaint and inviting stop for travellers, and above all, a friendly welcoming pub with fresh food cooked for all.

Nestled in the Oxfordshire countyside, the villages of Steeple and Middle Aston are located in the Cherwell valley, between the City of Oxford (14.4 miles away) and Banbury (10.2 miles). The closest town is Bicester, which is just 8.5 miles away.

The village is ideally located and has excellent connections. There is easy road access to both villages from the M40 and the journey takes around 15 minutes. There is also road access from the A4260 Oxford to Banbury Road, which is about five minutes away.

What our customers say

Really friendly atmosphere, nice setting and good food. Jack was our server and looked after us really well. Would recommend a visit.
Me and my family had a great lunch at the red lion , the roast dinners were lovely and our server Jack was very kind and polite to us and explained the menu to us and brought our food and drink brilliantly , definitely recommend to others as it was a very nice place to go for a relaxed meal
The Red Lion is back and in better shape than it has been for over 20 years and after the past 5 years rotating doors comedy show….. Running a village pub well is difficult to achieve yet in the space of one evening the Red has already moved to a completely different level.
